I'm Dancing for Halloween as a Zombie!
To raise funds for metastatic breast cancer, I'm putting myself out there (and loving it).
Dancing is something I love to do.
Halloween is something I don’t love.
But this year, I’ve been enthralled with the process of becoming a Zombie for Halloween. Fake blood and all.
That’s because I am part of something much bigger.
It’s a group called the MOMbies. Perhaps you’ve heard all the buzz? Good Morning America, the Today Show, many local (and not-so-local: India!!) news outlets, and some other biggies that I can’t write about now because they haven’t aired yet!
This group has taken off. Started as a fun way for moms to have fun on Halloween, Fairfield resident (and neighbor) Terry Davis, in 2016, put together a group of moms to go out into the streets and do a choreographed dance to the infamous Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” The group has grown to 50 women, and all this fun dancing is also raising funds for the Cancer Couch Foundation, which funds metastatic breast cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Every single dollar collected is matched by a very generous anonymous donor.
Rehearsals have been intense…intensely FUN with a side of very serious work, with our professional choreographer, Paul Herman, who truly lives up to his name, “The Prince of Motivation.” I’m reminded after each session with Paul why dancing is so much fun (and such great exercise!) I mop up my sweat, chug down my water, douse myself in the shower once I get home, and collapse into bed.
But what a good collapse it is.
I’ve lost way too many dear, wonderful friends to breast cancer, and being involved in this makes me feel like I can make a difference.
